So i conclude at the moment that i haven't got a problem, although i'd be interested to hear of ideas why it was 60'c before (just that it had been plugged in all that time.? Perhaps it (being plugged in) contributed to just overall warmth of the case and residual chip heat.? Supposedly the apple shop are to call me next time i am home so i guess there is still an oppurtunity to have the chips checked for grease application etc in due course if you think it might be worth it.? Cheers guys - this little exercise definitely helped me work my way around the apple hard/software if nothing else! I have also run the temp applications pretty much every time i have used it and never seen the temperature go higher than ~20'c. I have since been turning the computer off at wall when not on, but otherwise leaving it in. Even with both cores at 100% it never budged. this time the temperature on both coretempduo and hardware/temp monitor never flinched past 20'c, although again the SMART monitor noted a slight increase in temp to around the 32'c mark from quite cold. When i got back home i re-ran the apps as instructed from complete cold. Now, since that evening and of course whilst travelling to shop etc the computer was unplugged (i decided to unplug it seeing as i wasn't using it the previous evening). Duly turned up the next morning to get dicked over by the prick behind the counter claiming they didn't have enough time that day (definitely felt i was being fobbed off!) so returned with computer back home.

They agreed it was a bit high, but odd that the temperature didn't move under load and suggested i borugh it in the next day (this was at 525pm). This concerned me a bit so i rang the local apple shop where i got the computer from. The SMART monitor noted a slight raise here from around 28'c to 35'c. Max after about 15mins of 'work' still at 60'c for the CPU. throttling the cpu so both cores were working at 100% the temperature never budged. When i did the apps, both coretemp duo and hardware/temp monitor recorded CPU 60'c at idle.

I got back wednesday night but didn't try the apps until thursday afternoon, so at the least it had been plugged in for 4-5 days, possibly the full 9-10 days i was away.

I work away from home and the girlfriend also a complete Mac novice didn't switch the thing on after the weekend.

First troubles were coming back to the operation of the Mac OS after another 2 weeks of windows! got there in the end though! Now, the day i tried this the first time, the computer had been plugged in the wall for a fair few days, but only used maybe once or twice.

How do Well, i have downloaded the applications as recommended to me in the previous threads (thanks guys) and had a weird few days.
